What We Do‎ > ‎

Flying & Gliding

Joining the Air Cadets opens up lots of opportunities, including the chance to fly! It’s our aim to get you FlyGlideairborne as often as possible, as a passenger in a light aircraft, a glider or even on-board RAF aircraft such as the Typhoon fast-jet or Chinook helicopter.  There are plenty of opportunities for cadets to get in the air. Air Experience Flights could even see you take to the skies in a Grob Tutor light aircraft.

Stand out from the crowd and you could be put forward for an overseas flight on a Hercules, VC10 or    Tri-star. If you’re really lucky, you could even join a pilot in one of the fast-jet aircraft or experience the unbeatable exhilaration of a Red Arrows flight!

"Flying was a very enjoyable activity to do. I was able to take control of the aircraft and fly where I was directed. I also experienced aerobatics  such as loops, barrel rolls, stall turns and flying upside down!  I would recommend flying to anyone because it is a good experience to have and gives you a thrill whilst doing it."

We also go Gliding at a VGS (Volunteer Gliding School) where the Cadets can use a Vigilant or Viking glider.

All of our flights are supervised by fully qualified pilots.  Eventually, after adequate experience, Cadets will be allowed the opportunity to take over the controls, or even fly solo.  All of these hours and experience will lead to the Cadets gaining a Gliding Scholarship, and achieving blue, silver or gold wings, or even their Private Pilots License!
