Hello and welcome

             From the Commanding Officer
85 (Enfield & Southgate) Squadron

May I introduce myself as Flight Lieutenant Emma Smyth RAFVR(T).  I have been with 85 (Enfield and Southgate)
Squadron for nearly 8 years.  I worked my way up from joining as a Civilian Instructor, applying for my Commission, being the Training Officer for many year
s and now up to the Commanding Officer.  In my day job, I am a secondary school teacher.

We are one of many Air Cadet Squadrons around the UK and are based in Enfield Town and Winchmore Hill, London.  We meet twice a week and have a thriving Squadron; we currently have 60 Cadets on the books with a regular turn out of over 40.  We are directed by Head Quarters Air Cadets based at RAF Cranwell and have many directives, orders and training syllabuses to follow from them; we primarily have an interest to promote and foster aviation amongst young people.  As a Squadron, we take part in as many activities as possible including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, drill, flying and gliding, adventurous training, sports, music (we have our own marching band) and much, much more.

Please browse the website to find out more about us and the Air Cadet Organisation as a whole.  Furthermore you can visit www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets.

I appreciate that you are interested in our Squadron, and look forward to you joining or having some input.

  • Elworthy Runners-up Post
8 members from the Squadron took part in the Region-wide Elworthy competition joining other Cadet forces too.  Partaking in raft building, rowing, a vehicle pull, archery, shooting amongst others, the Squadron performed very well.  Overall, they won 3 events and each received 3 medals, and came 3rd overall.  An absolutely fantastic achievement for all who took part.  WELL DONE!!
